Tips For Buying Cordless Power Tools
The power tool industry has implemented the idea of cordless power tools in the past decade. Consumers enjoy the convenience of being able to use them anywhere without having to worry about a power supply. It is also nice not to have to worry about the cords being in your way, and especially when looking for extension cords to reach your work area.
Like most of you know, convenience is always more expensive. You will find cordless power tools cost more than the traditional power tools with cords. One big disadvantage will be that it will not deliver the constant power as a corded one. In many cases the difference in power isn’t enough to be an issue, but if the job you are performing will be big, this might be a problem.
You always know a power tool with a cord is going to work when you need it. That isn’t always so with a cordless tool. Speaking from my own experience, I have often picked up a cordless power tool and have come to realize the battery was drained from just being stored. While you can easily recharge the batteries, some power tools have a battery that gets weaker over time. So getting it to hold a full charge will not be possible. If this should ever occur you should consider buying a new battery.
There is less of a risk of accidents with a cordless tool because you don’t have to worry about trips and falls due to the cords. You will as well eliminate being shocked accidentally. A bad thing will be that somebody can’t unplug the tool in case of an emergency. Make sure any power tool has an easily accessed on/off switch.
Most cordless drills, saws, and other large tools will come with two batteries, this will eliminate having to wait for the battery to charge. You can use one till the battery drains, and simply trade it with the one in the charger. It is fast and easy to switch the two so you will always have a fully charged battery ready to work with.
Everyone will have different opinions on cordless power tools. Some of us love the convenience of them, and a paying little more does not matter. Most of us don’t miss the extra power either because we only use these power tools for home projects. Those who do large project on a regular basis prefer the heavy duty power tools with a cord. That is no problem since manufactures carry both options. It allows consumers to make a choice based on what is going to work well for them.
To choose, think about the requirements the power tool must have. What kind of projects will this tool be used for? Is an electrical outlet located in the area you plan to work on? How much power are you looking for? If this is not important to you, you can simply choose the best tool for the lowest price.
